writing letters

we are very public. we're not going away.

writing letters  is a verbatim play with music about grief, intimacy and hope.

written through conversations with over 30 survivors of lgtbq+-targeted hate crime, writing letters follows people navigating intimacy and affection.

i know this will stay with me (it already is a part of me)

audience feedback

featuring music written using abstracted interview transcripts with survivors, witnesses, police officers, counsellors and a wider community of collaborators.

the realest acting i've ever seen and was fresher than any other concept or execution i've witnessed

audience feedback

compelling, expressive and intricate, writing letters is a community. it is a symbol generosity towards sharing stories and processing collectively. the work was first built through funding from university of warwick's school of creative arts, performance and visual cultures, who awarded the project the clive barker award for new performance. the work was then expanded through a collaboration with warwick arts centre, who awarded the piece space and resources to develop the research into performance as part of their breaking eggs initiative.

this performance contains themes of loss, grief, depression, homophobia and hate crime.

developed with gratitude for funding and resources from
